Dr. Zsuzsa Csergo:
Populism, Democracy, and Central Europe
Dr. Zsuzsa Csergo, Head of the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University, started off our Fall 2018 lecture series with a robust discussion of populism and democracy in contemporary central Europe, especially Hungary. As usual for Later Life Learning Belleville, the subsequent question and answer session was equally stimulating!
Thank you, Dr. Csergo, for your fine presentation!
Next Wednesday, October 3, Kingston author Jamie Swift will continue our look at controversy and conflict in contemporary politics. His topic is "The Politics of Memory: Rewriting History".
Mr. Swift is the Director, Justice & Peace Office, Sisters of Providence in Kingston, and is also an adjunct professor at the Queen's School of Business. His books include The Vimy Trap: Or How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Great War and Warrior Nation: Rebranding Canada in an Age of Anxiety, both written with Ian McKay.
Tickets for the remaining four lectures in the series are still available and can be purchased at the door - $50 for the series; $15 for individual tickets. Lectures begin at 10 am and are held at St. Thomas' Anglican Church, 201 Church Street, Belleville.
